Jukwaa Residency – Kigali
In June 2026, we continued the residency work with artists we met in France.
Karl Moussavou Pambou worked with Kenny Mirasano and local musicians, after a week of studio worked they held a mini-concert and a jam session at Institut Français blending jazz influences and traditional rwandan music.
Together they also performed in a rural area in the district of Nyabihu (in the north)
Karl Moussavou Pambou also visited Nyundo School of Music and Arts in Muhanga where he held a jazz workshop for the students.

Kbira (DJ) dived into the electronic music scene of Kigali : she co-organised workshops with local djs Binghi and Itsmdnt, she performed at Something African, an event created by Jacques Nkinzingabo, at Institut Français during the Jukwaa event and in a rural area in the district of Nyabihu. She also tried music production, participated in music production workshops with local artists and music producers.

Gwenaël Bertaut, photographer and videographer worked with Jacques Nkinzingabo to co-create “HAGATI YACU”, an artistic installation that explores the accessibility of water in the post colonial era and how it has shifted over since independence. Gwenaël Bertaut is from Réunion, water, volcanoes, the question of access to resources are subjects that resonate deeply for him too, and are part of his own territory.
The two artists spent several days on the shores of Lake Kivu, meeting fishermen, discovering the hot springs, observing life on the public beaches, listening to the way people talk about the lake, the way they perceive it. A lake on the border of two countries, a lake bordered by a volcano, saturated with methane, where young people train to swim… A lake and its history, its formation, its uses over time, from fishing to the life unfolding on its public shores… HAGATI YACU is the story of an encounter: that of two artists, and that of a lake and its inhabitants.
The installation was presented at Institut Français and followed by a panel discussion with all artists to talk about artistic collaborations.
